Cross-Poster Listing Formatter — Fit One Listing to Every Marketplace's Character Limits

runs on your deviceFree, no sign-upOpen full screen

If you list the same item on more than one marketplace, this tool takes one title and description and shows, live, how each lands on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Etsy, Vinted, and Depop — character counts, a mobile-cutoff preview, and one-click copies for each platform.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your title and description into the master fields.
  2. Optional: use {{brand}}, {{size}}, or any {{variable}} in either field, then fill in the values once they appear below — handy when you're relisting a similar item with a new size or color.
  3. Check each platform's card — the bar turns amber near the limit and red once you're over it, and the cutoff preview shows what a mobile shopper sees before search results truncate your title.
  4. Turn on "Abbreviate common words" if you need to claw back characters (Extra Large → XL, Brand New With Tags → NWT).
  5. Copy each platform's title and description individually, or export all six at once as a .txt, .csv, or .json file.

Features

  • Live counts for six platforms at once — eBay, Poshmark, and Mercari cap titles at 80 characters, Vinted at 70, Etsy at 140, and Depop draws title and description from one shared 1,000-character pool rather than splitting them.
  • Mobile-cutoff preview — most marketplaces show only the first 40–60 characters in a search thumbnail, so a title that buries the brand and item type past that point loses the click even when it technically fits under the limit.
  • Editable limits with a checked date — platforms change these without notice, and sources genuinely disagree on some (Mercari in particular is reported anywhere from 40 to 80 characters), so every limit shows when it was last checked and can be overridden per platform.
  • {{variable}} templating — fill in brand, size, or color once and it applies across every platform's title and description.
  • Abbreviation pass — common phrases shrink automatically (Small → Sm, Excellent Condition → Exc Cond) to buy back characters without manual editing.
  • Duplicate-keyword warning — flags a repeated word in your title before you post, since eBay's Cassini search doesn't reward keyword stuffing and a repeat is character space you could spend on a size or brand.
  • Etsy tag checker — a separate counter for the 13-tag, 20-character-each limit, since an over-length tag gets silently truncated rather than rejected.
  • Copy or export everything — per-field copy buttons, or export all six platforms at once as .txt, .csv, or .json.
  • Nothing leaves your browser — no account, no upload, works fully offline once the page has loaded.

If you want a deeper breakdown of a description — reading time, keyword density, sentence and paragraph counts — the word and character counter goes further than the counts built into this tool. Before you post, it's also worth running your finished description through the spam and keyword checker, since a phrase that reads fine to you can quietly trip a platform's spam filter.

FAQ

Does this post my listing to eBay, Etsy, or any other platform automatically?

No. It only formats text. You copy the result and paste it into each platform's own listing form yourself.

Why does Depop show one combined number instead of separate title and description counts?

Depop's own character limit works that way — title and description share a single 1,000-character pool, so a long title leaves less room for the description rather than each field having its own separate cap.

Are the character limits guaranteed to be accurate?

No tool can guarantee that, including this one — platforms change limits without announcing it, and some limits are inconsistently reported across sources (Mercari's title cap especially). Each limit shows the date it was last checked, and you can override any of them if your own account shows something different.

Does the abbreviation toggle change my original text?

No — it only affects the resolved preview and what gets copied while the toggle is on. Turn it off and your original wording is exactly what you typed.

Is my listing data uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server. If you close the tab without exporting, the content is gone unless your browser's own form-autofill happened to save it.

Where can I manage my titles in bulk before formatting them, e.g. from a spreadsheet export?

If you're preparing titles and SKUs for a bulk upload from a spreadsheet, clean up stray whitespace and encoding issues first with the CSV cleaner — this formatter can't fix a title that already has a broken character in it. If your product photos have inconsistent filenames, the batch file renamer can standardize them before you upload.
