Free Signature Maker: Draw, Type or Scan a Signature to Transparent PNG
Make a transparent PNG or SVG signature by drawing, typing or scanning a photo. Free, no sign-up, no watermark, and nothing is uploaded.
What it does
Signature Maker turns your signature into a clean image with a transparent background, ready to drop onto a document, a slide, a website or an email. You can get there three ways: draw it with a mouse, finger or pen; type your name in a handwriting-style font; or upload a photo or scan of a signature you wrote on paper.
The result is trimmed to the ink, padded the way you choose, and exported as a transparent PNG. Signatures you draw can also be exported as a vector SVG that stays sharp at any size. There is no watermark, no account and no limit on exports.
How it works
Drawing. Your strokes are recorded as points and drawn as smooth curves, not jagged line segments. A smoothing slider steadies a shaky hand. With pen dynamics on, the line thins when you move quickly and, on a pressure-sensitive pen, follows how hard you press. Because strokes are stored as vectors, the signature is redrawn at the export size rather than stretched, so a 3x export is as crisp as a 1x one.
Typing. Your text is rendered in the handwriting font you pick, with controls for size, slant and stroke weight, then trimmed to the ink.
Photos. The photo is converted into ink and paper. The tool first estimates how bright the paper is in every part of the picture, so a shadow or uneven lighting does not turn into ink. It then keeps only the pixels darker than that paper, softens the edges, and removes small specks of dust. The threshold, edge softness and speck removal are all sliders, and you can rotate the photo in 90° steps. The ink is then recoloured to the colour you choose.
How to use it
- Pick Draw, Type or Upload photo.
- Draw in the box, type your name and choose a style, or drop in a photo and adjust the sliders until only the ink remains.
- Choose an ink colour: black, blue, dark blue or any custom colour.
- In the side panel, choose a background (transparent, white or a custom colour), the padding, the export width and the resolution (1x, 2x or 3x).
- Check the result on the preview, then click Download PNG, Download SVG (Draw mode), or Copy image.
- Optional: give it a name and Save signature to reuse it later, or use Send to… to open it in another tool.
Using the result
A transparent signature PNG sits on top of whatever is behind it. If your file has extra empty margin around the signature, Trim Transparent Pixels removes it, although Signature Maker already trims to the ink. If the image is larger than you need, Resize will scale it down. To put a signature at the bottom of your emails, the Email Signature HTML Generator builds the signature block that an image like this goes into.
Privacy
- Drawing, typing, photo cleanup, exporting and copying all happen in your browser. Your signature, your photos and the text you type are never uploaded anywhere. There is no server involved.
- Saved signatures stay on your device. If you use Save, or just leave the tool and come back, your work is kept in your browser's storage so it is there after a refresh. This follows the "keep files" setting in the toolkit's saved-data panel: turn it off and nothing is remembered. A Clear saved signatures & draft button deletes everything this tool has stored.
- Handwriting fonts: while the toolkit is not yet self-hosting its libraries, the first time you open Type mode the tool downloads a few small font files from a public CDN, then they work offline. The text you type is never sent. Once the libraries are served from this site, they come from here instead. (Writer: keep the first sentence while
libs.jshasvendored:false; replace it with "The handwriting fonts are served from this site and work offline" once it istrue.) - This tool has no feature that needs the internet beyond that one font download.
Limitations
- A transparent PNG is a picture of a signature. It is not a legally certified or cryptographic electronic signature, and some documents and countries require a specific e-signature service.
- Photo cleanup expects dark ink on lighter paper. Light ink on dark paper, or a very crumpled or heavily shadowed page, may need the threshold slider or a rescan.
- SVG export is available for drawn signatures only. Typed and photographed signatures can't be turned into an honest vector, so only PNG and WebP are offered for them.
- Exports are limited to what your browser can draw; extremely wide or tall results are reduced automatically and the tool tells you when that happens.
- Your browser must be able to open the photo you upload. If it can't (for example some phone-camera formats), save it as JPG or PNG first.
FAQ
Is it really free, and is there a watermark? Yes to free, and no watermark. There is no account, no export limit and no paid tier.
How do I get a transparent background? It is the default. Leave the background on "Transparent" and download the PNG. The preview shows a checkerboard behind your signature so you can see which areas are transparent. If you need a solid background for a site that does not accept transparency, choose White or Custom.
Why does my scanned signature have grey patches or shadows? Usually the photo was taken in uneven light. Keep "Even out paper shading" ticked, raise the ink threshold a little to ignore faint shading, and use the speck slider to clear small marks. A scan or a photo taken in even daylight works best.
What is the difference between PNG and SVG? PNG is a grid of pixels and works everywhere. SVG is made of curves, so it can be scaled to any size without blurring, which suits print or large banners. Use SVG for drawn signatures when you need that; use PNG for everything else.
Can I save more than one signature? Yes. Save as many as you like, for example a full signature, initials and a work version. Each one reloads with its settings, and drawn signatures remain editable. They live in your own browser only, so they will not appear on a different device or browser.
Will it work on my phone or tablet? Yes. Drawing works with a finger or a stylus, and with a pen that reports pressure the line follows how hard you press.
